About This Curiosity

Vintage Lledo & Days Gone Collectible Models - Set of 5

Add a little nostalgia to your collection with this set of five vintage advertising and commercial vehicle models. Featuring familiar names from British shops, businesses and everyday life, these miniature vehicles make interesting additions to collections of classic model vehicles and vintage advertising memorabilia.

These models have more noticeable damage and wear than our usual examples, making them an option for collectors who don't mind some imperfections, or who may be interested in restoration projects.

Models Included

  • Mars van: Substantial paintwork chips, particularly on the roof.
  • Lledo Collection van (green): One wing mirror broken.
  • Walkers van: One wing mirror broken.
  • Rice Krispies van: Substantial scratches, with signs of a well-played-with condition.
  • Tetley's Tea van: Missing one wing mirror.

Price

£9.99 for all five models.

The models are sold together as one lot and are not available individually.

Condition & Care

These are vintage collectible models showing noticeable signs of age, previous handling and wear. As detailed above, the set includes substantial paint chips and scratches, as well as broken or missing wing mirrors. They are not in pristine display condition, so please take the listed imperfections into account when considering your purchase.

The models will be lightly cleaned before despatch. We will also send you detailed photographs with your invoice, giving you the opportunity to examine the condition of all five vehicles more closely before deciding whether to proceed with your purchase.

Please Note

These are vintage collectibles intended for adult collectors, not toys for children. They may contain small parts and should be kept out of the reach of children. As with any vintage items, please handle them with care.

This listing is for the five models described above, sold together as a single set. When you enquire, we will provide detailed photographs of the exact models before payment.

Please note: The curiosities we sell are, by their nature, vintage or previously used items. They may show signs of age, require additional care when handling, displaying or storing them, and some may be fragile. Parts that were originally designed for practical use, such as handles, may no longer be strong enough to support an item's weight, and items may no longer function or perform as they were originally intended. Please handle all items with care and consider their age and condition before use.

Toys and Collectibles: Sebastian's Curiosities specialises in vintage items and collectibles intended for adult collectors, rather than toys for children. Even where an item was originally marketed as a toy, it is included in our collection because of its vintage or collectible interest. Such items should be treated as collectibles, are suitable for adults only, and should not be purchased for children or left within their reach.

Please read our Buying and Owning Vintage Items Information before making a purchase.

Sebastian's Curiosity

I can imagine these little vehicles sitting proudly in someone's display cabinet, perhaps collected over many years and each one bringing back a memory. Maybe the sight of a Bird's Custard van reminded them of a familiar tin in the kitchen cupboard, or a Pickfords lorry brought back memories of a family move. It's lovely to think that these miniature vehicles may have meant something personal to their original owner, holding little reminders of everyday life that might otherwise have been forgotten. Now they have the chance to spark a few memories for someone new.

The History Behind This Curiosity

A Little History: Lledo and Days Gone Models

The appeal of Lledo's Days Gone models lies in their ability to bring a little piece of the past into a collection. Launched in 1983 by former Matchbox executive Jack Odell and his business partner Burt Russell, the range took inspiration from earlier generations of miniature vintage vehicles, including the popular Matchbox Models of Yesteryear.

Many models featured delivery vans, buses and commercial vehicles inspired by transport from the early decades of the twentieth century. One particularly successful idea was to produce familiar vehicle designs carrying the names and advertising of real businesses. This created a huge variety of models, from household brands to local companies, making them appealing to collectors of both miniature vehicles and advertising memorabilia.

The Lledo name itself has an unusual story: it is Jack Odell's surname spelt backwards. The company built a strong following during the 1980s and 1990s, with its models often bought for display, collected as souvenirs or acquired as promotional gifts.

Today, these models appeal for several reasons. Some collectors enjoy the miniature vehicles themselves, while others are drawn to the familiar brand names and the memories they evoke of shops, products and businesses from earlier times. A model bearing a name such as Bird's Custard, Fry's or Pickfords can be a small reminder of Britain's commercial and everyday history, as well as an interesting addition to a vintage model collection.

Whether you're adding to an established collection or choosing a favourite because it reminds you of a particular brand or time in your life, these little vehicles offer a nostalgic glimpse into Britain's past.
